You will see from our teaming structure that we have two learning communities at each grade level. Each team has one leader. Our teams and leaders are well established and they function extremely well. As I write this, both grade 7 teams and both grade 8 teams are off campus engaging in “bonding day” activities. Grade 6 did their bonding activities on a giant “sleep over” that took place Friday of the first full week of school. All of the organizational details and decisions for these activities were made at the team level. The important thing is that the teams have the power and ability to make a great deal of the decisions that affect them directly. In this way we have opened up the leadership potential in our building and have enjoyed the benefits of a very connected and positive culture.
